Art quilting and fibre art retreats
Textile Illustration ....for those who think they can’t draw!
March 9, 10, 11, 2012

We are thrilled to announce that Catherine Nicholls is coming to Salt Spring Island!
In this 2 day workshop, she will explore drawing and painting on fabric. This will lead to making a quilt, designing fabric as a base for embroidery or creating gorgeous textiles. Day 1 will be spent sampling techniques – pen and ink, painting, working with stencils and free motion quilting as ways to add text and drawing to fabric. Working from your our own source of inspiration on day 2, you will develop designs for a quilt, embroidery or surface design using day 1 techniques.
Join us Friday evening for a retrospective of Catherine’s work including some of her new pieces. View her web site CorvidCreations The next edition of the Th3fold journal # 6 will be released later in 2012 so this is a great opportunity to see some of Catherine’s current work. This inspiring trunk show is included in the cost of the course fee, or space may be booked for this retrospective show for $20.00 per person.
On Saturday evening, Stitches will be open at 7:00 for late night shopping. Catherine will be available for consultation regarding fabric selection and color schemes for your second day of class. Please join us for complimentary wine and cheese.
Catherine Nicholls – well know painter, writer, quiltmaker, teacher and one of the Th3fold journal members along with Linda and Laura Kemshall. Born and raised in Vancouver, much of her work is inspired by the nature and stories of the Pacific Northwest. Her work is developed through drawing, painting and mixed media in sketchbooks. When working with textiles, she incorporates discharge processes, dyeing, drawing, painting and printing, along with more traditional quilting techniques.
