Winter in the Twilight Zone
This great wallhanging can be made into any width or height, by simply making the fabric strips wider or longer. We cut ours 44" long (selvage to selvage) and 12" wide. The assembly of this quilt is simple: lay two fabrics lenghtwise, so they overlap by approximately 3-4" Then cut a gentle wavy edge, cutting through both fabrics at the same time. These are then sewn together with a 1/4' seam. Full directions for this technique are found in the pattern.
There are instructions for adding the circle and leaf applique shapes and making a bias binding suitable for binding around the protruding circle shape. Our sample was sewn using the new line by Mckena Ryan called Sand in my shoes. We have prepared a kit for purchase to make a wallhanging the same as our sample.
We used invisifil thread for the decorative stitching. Note we took our inspiration for the stitching designs from the fabric in each section. We added some circle and leaf shapes with irridescent paintstiks. These are most successful when just a light application of color was added.
We finished our sample with a few rain drop shaped beads sewn in a few areas of the wall hanging.
