Here are some images from our recent felting class. Students used wool roving and embellishments to create a unique landscape wallhanging. Photos are a good souce of inspiration as a starting point for a composition.

Wool fibres are spread out  horizontally  and vertically on a silk base.  Water, soap and aggitation encourage the fibres to felt into the base.

After felting, additional details were added with needle felting. The diversity in the finished products was amazing. Thanks to everyone who participted in the class.

Spend a day working with fibre and creativity. Enjoy a workshop, learn new fibre art techniques, visit other fibre artists and enjoy the many sites and sounds that Salt Spring Island has to offer.

There are some fantastic books on how to needle felt. One of my favorites is Embellish, Stitch, Felt by Shelia Smith.  The author covers how to use a variety of fibres & fabrics including wool, fusibles, lutradur, organza silk & cotton scrim. Excellent photographs and samples demonstrate hand needle felting, the use of an embellisher, and step-by-step instructions.
