Three panels of the "cheater panel" were used cut into a variety of sizes. A selection of coordinating fabrics were then auditioned and added as the design grew. Left over fabric was used to create an interesting binding and backing. The finished size of the quilt is approx 67 X 85"   We used 3 of the preprinted panels and 1/2 meter each of 6 coordinating fabrics. The binding was made from the left over pieces.

The second sample is Winter Snow, by Lonni Rossi. We made this quilt a few years ago when this line of fabric was introduced. We used the following fabric  to make the quilt top: 3 panels of  Winter Snow, 1/2 meter of each of 5 coordinating fabrics and .6 meter for the binding.

Our third sample was created from our Silk Collection: Summer Carnival.  We used 13 fat 1/4 silk pieces for this design.

A design wall is essential when planning an original design. We started by  dividing the original  panels into smaller units.  Using a 1/4"seam, add strips of the coordinating fabrics.  Remember to use a range of widths and lenghts when adding new fabrics.  As large units of the quilt are created,  place them onto a design wall, determine the approximate placement  and the join sections. Gradually build up larger units. I t may be necessary to add a strip or to remove a section, so that the larger units can be sewn together.
