Angelina fibres & film
Angelina film is the raw material that all the fibres are cut from. The very fine cut fibres are marketed as Angelina and the heavier coarser cut fibres and marketed as crimped angelina or crystalina. Since all of these are cut from the same product, that all fuse to each other.
They do not fuse to any other item so must be sewn or fused. A great book on the possibilities is titled "Between the Sheets with Angelina" by Allison Marsden. althought written before film and coarse fibres were manufactured, the ideas and techniques in this book are the best we have seen.
Linda Schmidt teaches a great class through Quilt University titled Elements in Fabric. She teaches four themes including earth, wind, water and fire Our third and forth images are details of my pieces from the class taken several years ago. In the fire scene, I painted the black trees with Jacquard paint. Whisps of angelina were secured with nylon organza cut into flame shapes. These were fused in place with a fusible adhesive. The embers are created with 007 powder sprinkled onto the base fabric. Foil was laid on top and heat from an iron activated the 007 powder, fusing the foil into tiny little spots. I highly recommend one of Linda's great classes.
