Just before the holidays, a group of us got together to learn how to make coiled baskets. We used various threads, yarns and cords for the wrapping. Some even added shells and beads! Here are the finished pieces.  It is amazing how different they all turned out!

The technique is similar to that in the new book "Its a wrap" which uses 2 1/2" strips of fabric.  These are wrapped abound the cording, and then a zig zag stitch joins the coils.

Sewing with Dupioni silk

We have just received a large selection of dupioni silks in a range of rich intense colors. The first sample, shows   what we did with the silk collection named Summer Carnival.  For this quilt, Wendy used 11 of these jewel toned fat 1/4s for the quilt. The quilt could be sightly larger if all 13 fat  1/4's from the collection were used.  Random shapes were cut and assembled into a pleasing design.  Quilting followed the geometric lines created by the shapes of the blocks. The finished measurements of this quilt are appoximately 56" X 48"
