About us
In business since 1998, Stitches has built a reputation as a competitive resource for a broad range of fibre art supplies. Our initial focus was on fabric and we featured unusual and hard to find designers of quality cotton. We produced many completed quilts, garments and wall hangings, but found that most of our customers wanted to create their own finished items.
Soon we found our customers were requesting yarns and this seemed a natural progression for us. Starting with sock yarn, we then expanded into quality knitting yarns including silk, mohair, bamboo, cashmere and alpaca. We found a cross over in the materials used in art quilting, knitting and fibre arts and we began to expand on our selection of these products, changing our focus dramatically in 2003. Stitches became a destination for fibre artists looking for all of their materials in one location. Our mandate is to establish ourselves as a complete resource of supplies for our customers, sourcing out non-traditional products and book titles from the US and abroad.
We are fortunate to live in a community surrounded by beauty and supported by talented artists. The shop has recently moved to a lovely old house, opening up a corner of Ganges that has been covered by ivy and fruit trees for nearly 30 years. Now restored to its former glory in a park like setting, the shop boasts rooms bursting with inspirational samples, fibres, textiles and informative displays.
Our qualified staff offers a wide range of expertise in all areas of quilting, textiles, knitting and fibre arts. Unfortunately, Salt Spring Island is a remote community and not easily accessible. We take the shop on the road by attending many trade shows thoughout the year as we know the value in touching the products, seeing the samples and talking to knowledgeable staff.
We have developed this site for those of you who live just too far away. Our hope is to offer the sense of creativity and inspiration that we have in our brick and mortar shop.
